What a surprise. Same conference, different day, same story, and same villain. Heard it all before? Yes. The US stands accused of trying to derail the Bali talks. Again.
With just one day left of the 14-day talks between representatives from more than 180 countries in Bali, it looks increasingly likely that no agreement will be reached at all.
“These are wrecking tactics,” said Keith Allott, head of climate change at WWF-UK. “The stakes are now very high and they are proposing to destroy the protocol completely. The Bush administration is trying to kill real progress.”
Earlier, Al Gore, urged delegates to take urgent action to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. “My own country, the United States, is principally responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali.”
He continued: During this upcoming two-year period there will be a national election in the United States. One year and 40 days from today there will be a new inauguration in the United States.”
We are counting Al, we are counting…
