June 1st, 2024, the grand opening day, came and went —but nothing actually happened. It was the latest of many proposed start dates that have come and gone over the years.
The highly controversial Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) was meant to start a year ago, then last month, and finally, on June 1st. Again, that deadline was missed.
The resistance to the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) remains strong. People will continue to fight until this unnecessary pipeline is dead and communities in Appalachia thrive with affordable renewable energy, good jobs, and a healthy climate.
“By sneaking deadly policies into must-pass legislation, Congress is sacrificing frontline communities and making a mockery of the democratic process.”
“This is a manufactured crisis designed specifically to hurt working people, and our leaders don’t have to participate in this deadly charade. Congress should reject these poison pills that have no relation to the debt ceiling and pass a clean increase,” said Collin Rees.
“We must draw a red line and say no to Republicans taking our economy hostage to line the pockets of the fossil fuel industry,” said Allie Rosenbluth.
Today is a major defeat for the Manchin and American Petroleum Institute-approved bill which would have fast-tracked the Mountain Valley Pipeline and other fossil fuel projects.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline will not enable U.S. LNG exporters to export more gas to Europe, is not needed in the Southeast, and will increase GHG emissions and make it harder to reach our climate targets. MVP is a false solution looking for a problem. It’s out of date and out of time.
