Response to Energy Permitting Reform Act committee vote

In response to the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 moving out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Allie Rosenbluth, United States Program Manager at Oil Change International, released the following statement:

“The Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee should be ashamed that it voted to advance the Energy Permitting Reform Act, a blatant, dirty deal to fast-track fossil fuels at any cost. This outrageous bill would unleash more oil and gas drilling on federal lands and waters and recklessly rush the review of proposed LNG export projects equivalent to the greenhouse gas pollution of 165 new coal plants

“The International Energy Agency and scientists worldwide have made it clear: No new fossil fuel project is compatible with a livable future. The United States, already the world leader in oil and gas production and expansion, is failing miserably to meet its climate commitments.

“We thank Senators Ron Wyden, Bernie Sanders, and Mazie Hirono for voting ‘no’ and voicing their strong opposition to the fossil fuel giveaways in this bill. This bill is a shameless attempt by Senator Joe Manchin to line the pockets of his fossil fuel donors, sacrifice communities, and endanger our climate. We demand the Senate reject this disastrous proposal and commit to real action to protect frontline communities from the devastating impacts of fossil fuel development and the ongoing climate crisis.”

  • So now that we know what is written here, what will be done with that information? Will anyone be discredited, demoted, asked to leave their position? I only suggested the above, to make it clear that we have had the same opportunity for years, yet we always allowed the abuse to continue UNCHECKED. Well perhaps it is finally the time, to take our individual lives and those of our children
much more seriously. If Government allows the continuance of such harmful practices, then it is high time to change the guard, and I don’t mean from Democrat to Republican. Heaven forbid. Both these dominant party’s have brought us to the abhorrent place we all now occupy. It is time for the PEOPLE to stand up for themselves, before they and their children can no longer breathe. I would prefer a new Party to emerge. One that will be, of the people, by the people, and for THE PEOPLE. i propose this, because I am against bloodshed. Please hear my plea. It is meant for all of us. The only other alternative we have is to rebel, and that would be awful. Yet we have learned that rebellion gave birth to this once Great Nation. We broke away from England who refused to listen to its colonists of the time. We also fought a Civil War in this Country that was a bloody war, but it did produce a UNITED COUNTRY in the end, that became the ENVY of THE WORLD. Please hear me.
The above is written by an unprejudiced, well traveled, educated retired businessman of eighty-six, with children, Grandchildren and Great grandchildren, who I care about deeply. It is for them that I write.
